Desert Eagle - .50AE - Israel

The Desert Eagle is a long-stroke gas-operated rotating-locking bolt handgun. Gas is tapped from the chamber end of the barrel, and to a recess in the end of the barrel. The gas piston that attaches to the end of the slide inserts into this recess where upon firing blows the slide rearward, thereby rotating the bolt and unlocking it from the lugs in the barrel. A spring loaded pin that protrudes from the slide locks the bolt when fully unlocked. The slide then moves forward under power of the dual recoil spring, impacting the spring loaded pin on the face of the barrel thereby unlocking the bolt and allowing it to rotate into the locking lugs.
